cold-water-baby-steriliserElsewhere on this site we have reviewed the other two types of baby steriliser.  The third and final type is the chemical baby steriliser.  These differ from the microwave steriliser and the steam steriliser in that they don’t require any form of heating to work.  For this reason they are commonly referred to as cold water sterilisers.  These work by soaking your baby feeding equipment in diluted bleach containing a precise amount of water for a prescribed amount of time.  Not requiring access to an electricity supply or a microwave carries obvious advantages.  However, set against this is the requirement to carry the sterilization fluid around with you.

You need to be extremely carful when using these devices to ensure that there are no bubbles which could prevent adequate sterilisation within your baby feeding equipment.  After use you need to rinse off the baby bottles with boiled water to remove all the bleach.  These devices are also very slow in comparison to other methods and are difficult to move when full due to their weight.  Some parents are also concerned about the risks of accidently exposing their baby to residual sterilisation fluid.
